Finance ministry rejects bank reform proposals to limit family control

The Financial Institutions Division under the finance ministry has rejected recent reform proposals put forward by Bangladesh Bank aimed at curbing family control within the banking sector. The central bank's draft had suggested reducing the number of directors from a single family from three to two. Additionally, the proposal sought to shorten the maximum consecutive tenure for directors from 12 years to six years, both of which were dismissed by the ministry.
